Q&A with Wylie Ng, current student of APA’s Diploma Course

After talking with so many graduates of our Asia-Pacific Aromatherapy school lately, we thought it’s time to interview one of our current students again. Wylie Ng has already completed all “in-class” hours as well as the required case studies of the diploma course and after submitting her last project she will soon be a qualified aromatherapist.

Wylie kindly shares her experience with our school, why she decided to take our diploma course and how her case studies have built up her confidence of being an aromatherapist:

1) Wylie, what were your reasons for studying aromatherapy?

The idea of using essential oils to enhance physical and psychological well-being is fascinating to me as I always love to savor nature but I never actually took the action of learning aromatherapy until I suffered from stomach problems under work pressure. I quit my job a few months after the course had started as I wanted to have a time out to regain my health and to focus more on my studies.

2) What did you like most about APA’s diploma course? Any subject(s) you found challenging?

Communication Awareness was both the most enjoyable and challenging subject to me. It got me to know of my world and myself, which helped freeing me and let me be who I am. The personal growth I gained makes APA’s diploma course a precious life experience. The challenging part is to be an effective helper: listening and responding in a reflective way while maintaining an appropriate emotional distance with clients.

3) Can you tell us a bit about your experience with your case studies?

Case studies have built up my confidence as an aromatherapist; how I should do research on the problems that my clients have and how to take a holistic approach.

4) How are you planning to apply your knowledge as a certified aromatherapist?

I will consult in a freelance way by sharing with my friends how to enhance our physical and mental well-being by using essential oils in our daily life. Some of my friends are already using my custom-blend skin products, perfume and room spray.

5) Any tips for our readers who are interested in taking this diploma course?

I strongly recommend them to take short courses or workshops before committing to the diploma course. They can get a taste of what aromatherapy is and understand if it’s the journey they are looking for.
