Q&A with our new Ayurveda teacher and practitioner Dr. Shveta

Ayurveda practitioner Dr. Shveta

We cordially welcome Dr. Shveta (BAMS) to our teaching and therapy team and look forward to her exciting course “Introduction to Ayurveda” which will start on
23 February 2014 here at APA.

Prior to the commencement of her course, Dr. Shveta kindly talked to us about her passion for practicing Ayurveda, what kind of Ayurveda treatments she will offer and what students can expect to learn in her course:

1) Dr. Shveta, you have studied Ayurveda in India and hold a diploma in naturopathy and yoga from Delhi – can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

I studied Ayurveda for 6 years and completed my degree of B.A.M.S (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) in India.

I truly believe in Ayurveda and it is a part of my daily life. It’s my passion to practice Ayurveda and help people use this invaluable nature’s science in their lives.
2) For all those new to Ayurveda, can you give us a short description of what it is and what the basic concepts are?Ayurveda is the most ancient medicine; most of the modern day medicine has actually originated from Ayurveda. It is a thousand-year-old science but still valid to use and it has great benefits.

Yoga, for example, is also a part of Ayurveda. The three basic concepts / constitutions are vatta, pitta and kapha.
Ayurveda works on lifestyle, daily routine, habits, sleep pattern, etc.
3) You are going to teach the “Ayurveda Introductory Course” here at APA soon – what can students expect to learn? It is a Introductory Course, so I will be teaching
the three basic concepts vatta, pitta and kapha.
Also, I will introduce the history of Ayurveda
, rules to follow in daily life and give an insight into Ayurveda therapies.

I think for the students the most interesting part will be to learn about their body types.
They will surely get a great benefit from this course and will develop a general common sense in order to live a healthy life (i.e the do’s and dont’s according to Ayurveda).

4) We also look forward to having you as an Ayurvedic practitioner joining our treatment centre shortly. What kind of Ayurvedic treatments will you offer?

Yes, I’m excited to practice Ayurveda therapies in APA soon. I will start with two Ayurveda therapies:
First one is “Abhyangam”, which, you can say, is a general body massage according to Ayurveda. We use medicated oils which are chosen according to one’s constitution (vatta, pitta or kapha).

Second one is “Potli” massage. It is performed by using dried herbs tied in a piece of cloth followed by a full body massage.
Both therapies have immense health benefits and are open to all.

5) What are basic Ayurvedic guidelines everybody can easily follow on a daily basis?

Actually their are many guidelines. I would like to share few,
for example:

Not to take salt and milk together
or not to take fish and milk together
. These are contraindicated food combinations and lead to skin diseases.
To follow a healthy routine, sparing time to do yoga, to take some rest, eat on time and to include more natural food products.
Follow the season, your age and, most importantly, your body constitution.

Thanks so much! Dr. Shveta will hold a FREE Information Talk prior to her course to give more details and to answer any questions. Spaces are limited, so register now here.
